This guide will help you to maintain your Coco Loves Jewellery for as long as possible.
At Coco Loves Jewellery we specialise in high quality Gold Vermeil, Gold Filled, 18ct Gold Plating, Sterling Silver and Stainless Steel with 18K Gold Plating.
Gold Vermeil
- Has a thick gold layer (2.5 microns or more)
- The thickness ensures superior longevity and durability
- Provides a genuine ‘gold’ appearance and is very lustrous
Gold Vermeil is Sterling Silver that has a significantly thick layer of gold electroplated over it, meeting specific thickness and gold purity standards.
To be classified as Gold Vermeil, the gold layer must be at least 2.5 microns thick and made of 10K gold or higher. At Coco we use 14ct -18ct gold. This high – quality plating offers a luxurious, durable finish that resembles solid gold but is a more affordable option. Our Gold Vermeil Jewellery is stamped with 925 as the base is of Sterling Silver.
How long will my gold vermeil jewellery last?
Gold vermeil jewellery can last for several years, but its lifespan depends on wear frequency, care and exposure to chemicals. While more durable than standard gold plating due to its thicker gold layer over sterling silver, it is always advised to remove your jewellery before showering. Avoid harsh chemicals and chlorine and always try to put your jewellery on last when getting ready as make up, hairspray and perfume can affect the shine of your jewellery.
Always pop your jewellery back into its soft dust bag when not wearing it to protect it from dust and moisture and to prevent tarnishing and scratches. If your Gold Vermeil jewellery does show any signs of tarnish give it a gentle polish with the Coco Loves Jewellery polishing cloth included with your purchase.
Gold – Filled
Gold – Filled Jewellery consists of a thick, durable layer of solid gold that is mechanically bonded with heat and pressure to a base metal, typically brass. This process creates a long lasting, high – quality, and more affordable alternative to solid gold jewellery. Gold Filled jewellery typically is a richer more yellow gold.
How long will my Gold-Filled jewellery last?
Gold filled jewellery can last for many years with the proper care because of its thick layer of bonded gold to the base metal. To maximise its lifespan, avoid harsh chemicals and chlorine. Remove before showering or washing your hands and always try to put your jewellery on last when getting ready as make up, hairspray and perfume can affect the shine of your jewellery.
Always pop your jewellery back into its soft dust bag when not wearing it to protect it from dust and moisture and keep it free from scratches. Give it a gentle polish from time to time with an untreated polishing or dust cloth to restore its shine.
Gold Plated
Our Gold Plated Jewellery has a Sterling Silver base with 14ct or 18ct Gold Plating on top. As with all our Coco Loves Jewellery, we advise you to keep your jewellery away from harsh chemicals, remove when showering, swimming and washing your hands. Always try to put your jewellery on after getting dressed and doing your hair and makeup as hairspray and perfumes can cause wear and tear on your jewellery.
Always pop your jewellery back into its soft dust bag when not wearing it to protect it from dust and moisture and keep it free from scratches. Give it a gentle polish from time to time with an untreated polishing or dust cloth to restore its shine.
Sterling Silver
Sterling Silver is a durable and beautiful alloy consisting of 92.5|% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, most commonly copper. The added metals provide strength and durability, as pure silver is too soft for practical use in jewellery. While Sterling Silver can tarnish, proper care can minimize and reverse the process.
How to care for your Sterling Silver jewellery –
Always store your Sterling Silver in a cool, dry place, ideally in its anti-tarnish pouch. Avoid any harsh chemicals like chlorine and cleaning products. Always put your jewellery on last when getting ready to avoid getting make up, hairspray or perfume. Always remove your jewellery before showering.
If jewellery appears to tarnish give it a gentle clean with The Coco Loves polishing cloth included with every purchase.
Stainless Steel
Stainless Steel has become a popular choice for jewellery and is known for its strength and durability.
At Coco Loves Jewellery we use 304 Stainless Steel with 18K Gold Plating. Stainless Steel is known for its low maintenance. It will not tarnish and maintains its lustre with minimal upkeep.
How to care for your Stainless Steel Jewellery –
While water – resistant, Stainless Steel can be damaged by harsh chemicals. We always recommend removing your jewellery before swimming in chlorine. Pop your jewellery on after getting dressed, applying your make up or spraying hairspray or perfume.
To clean your jewellery, we recommend using a very mild soap solution with warm water and dry with a soft cloth. Store your jewellery in its Coco Loves pouch when not wearing.
